The organization was founded by Father Robert Connolly. At age 11, Father Connolly was introduced to the martial arts and continually trained and instructed for the rest of his life. He was one of the students who studied with Young Il Kong. Young Il Kong was one of the instructors sent by General Choi Hong Hi to various parts of the world as “good will” ambassadors for Korean culture. These young men were ordered to distant lands, with almost no money, to establish Tae Kwon Do schools.

Father Robert Connolly founded the Se-Jong Tae Kwon Do Martial Arts Educational System in the late 1970's as a free, non-profit school designed to enrich his students' mental and physical well-being through spirituality, meditation, and training. Father would start a Se-Jong school at each of his parishes, and when he transferred to his next parish, his senior students would continue that school and train further students under his system. Father Connolly's martial arts system has been in operation for over forty years and has had a profound impact and positive influence on his hundreds of black belts and the many thousands of martial arts students trained under his system.

Taekwondo Vocabulary Commands and Numbers English to Korean 4MAKA

Taekwondo Vocabulary

The martial art of Taekwondo originated in Korea. As a result, it is not uncommon to hear commands, counting, moves, etc... using the Korean language in class. Language can be a way to acquire additional knowledge about a culture. Learning a second language, or in this case, some Korean words can help improve memory, concentration, as well as other skills. In addition, the fact that many Taekwondo classes across the globe are using the same Korean commands and words fosters a sense of community, tradition, and being part of something much bigger than one's own particular Taekwondo class. The following are some of the Korean words and their English equivalents that you may hear in a Taekwondo class.
